Velvet Condom (Alice Von and Oberst Panizza) de Berlin
This album is hopefully only the first of many more releases, as this is one of the best independent (electro) pop records recently released…AND they play some of the finest indie guitar pop / shoegazer stuff heard since a long time…. This album could well be hottest release for this summer. (Enfant-terrible.nl)
“BEST UNSIGNED ELECTRO BAND” (Gothic Magazine)
As you probably have guessed by now, VELVET CONDOM is not your typical 80s revival party electro band dressed up in flashy colours and I won’t complain about it since they managed to mix the danceable pop elements of the genre to darker experimental ones ingeniously on this first album. (Veglam.com)
While most French electro bands just take the easy DAFT PUNK way turning into DJs who do nothing but play their own music on CDs at shows, you’ll still find some more underground minimalistic acts that have more in common with German robotic genre originators KRAFTWERK. (Veglam.com)
Dark, brooding Electronica reminiscent of early New Wave such as The Cure, Bauhaus, Joy Division/New Order…(ReadtheFanzine.co.uk)
This amazing duo from Strasbourg creates an unique aesthetic of cold synth wave with elements of rough, but melodic post punk and shoegaze.
Ricky and Carl were involved in making Drum & Bass remixes, running clubs and a record label; Primal Music. There was a force at play. Something beckoned them to summon their collective forces to see what would come out of it. “Who knows?” That kind of deal.
Nina had her past in the grunge-like outfit, Salt. They toured the US and were moving towards road-kill fame when Nina decided that there was more to life than eating bad food and sleeping in awkward places. She returned to Sweden to regroup and come up with a different approach on how to make her voice herd.
Ricky, the graphic designer with a unhealthy interest in reggae and deep dub music also felt the need to express something more than what he could present through the hundreds of album covers he was churning out at the time. Although extremely successful in his field, he felt the urge to take it to the next level. – baxtersweden.com

Fol Chen (Samuel Bing, The Booksman, Gmo, Julian Wass, Patrik-Ian, and Sinosa Loa.) de California
A transmission from Fol Chen: “We sound like Prince with Amon Duul II and a children’s religious revival, not to mention Hot Chip, Pink Floyd, Gwen Stefani, Pere Ubu, Danielson Famile, Scritti Politti, Boards Of Canada, The Blow, and Pulp. (Mostly). We are cryptic and joyful and we would like you to dance.” Features appearances by Karin Tatoyan and Rafter, along with members of The Liars, Castanets, Let’s Go Sailing.
For its second album, Highland Park sextet Fol Chen presents Part II: The New December, songs of malaise and miscommunication set to dark pop and glitch-riddled chamber funk. Since the band’s inception, Fol Chen has remained a mysterious entity – its membership disguised by masks and aliases, its lyrics appearing as transmissions from a fictional world. But just as the on-album narrative has congealed in bits and pieces, the group’s real-life story has grown in tangible ways. Fol Chen’s wildly eclectic 2009 debut, Part I: John Shade, Your Fortune’s Made, spawned some healthy praise (from NPR, no less), a remix album (featuring No Kids and Junior Vasquez, among others), a BBC session, and a video collaboration with the Laker Girls. It also paved the way for a pair of uniquely inspired covers: Prince’s “The Beautiful Ones” (recorded for Spin) and Pink Floyd’s “In The Flesh” (for Mojo). Fol Chen’s bent, blackened takes on the pop eccentrics of yore provided fresh context for its own kaleidoscopic songs, and The New December shores up the group’s slippery identity further still. This is Fol Chen’s most focused work – as consistent as it is consuming, as enjoyable as it is unusual. – Asthmatic Kitty Records
10/09/10: Bestival!!! Isle Of Wight (UK) (The best FESTIVAL!!!!!)
Apparently, when west London rapper Example, aka Elliot Gleave, was 10 years old he won a national poetry competition. Listening to From Space, the opening track on his second album, it’s hard to see how that literary potential has been fulfilled: “I got brand new socks, pack of five/ I’ve been down the shops.” The typical rapper bravado is expressed thusly: “Try pigeonhole me/ Other pigeons better watch.” If that all sounds a bit junior school playground, he does have a point – much of Won’t Go Quietly is hard to pin down. On the sleek dance-pop of the title track and Last Ones Standing’s pummelling synths, he’s a less irritating Calvin Harris, while on the piano-inflected Millionaires, he recalls former label boss Mike Skinner’s way with the heartstrings. Elsewhere, Kickstarts is an exuberant electropop love song, Sick Notes (produced by dubstep pioneers Chase & Status) adds a grimier edge, and the whole thing ends with religious questioning on Won’t Believe the Fools. Oddly compelling. – The Guardian UK

As one of a new generation of British psychedelic artists, Slackbaba’s individual style has produced some memorable live sets; turning down tempo audiences into full tribal stompers and delivering his cross-boundary hybrid grooves with impunity. His music draws the listener through a labyrinth of pulsing rhythms and mind-bending sonic states, demonstrating his skills in sound manipulation and delivering a new take on psychedelic electronica.
Since the release of the critically acclaimed ‘And The Beat Goes Om’, Slackbaba has shared the stage around the globe from California to Japan and India with such greats as Eat Static, Shpongle, System 7 and The Orb, and continues to impress crowds the world over with his unique blend of musical influences. Along with releases on compilations, he has recently collaborated with System 7 for their ‘Phoenix’ album and provided music for ‘Hottest Party 2′ on the Nintendo Wii.
Slackbaba’s second studio album, ‘Perverting Mankind’, will be released in March 2010. A cutting edge selection of 11 genre-bending tracks, which take influence from a wide range of musical styles, from Dubstep, Breakbeat and Drum & Bass, to House and Psychedelic Trance. This album blurs sonic boundaries with ease and effortlessly pushes the envelope of electronic music further. This promises to be one of the must-have releases of 2010.
With summer approaching us, the sun shining, the beach, one name comes to mind : Flashworx! Happy 80s vibes, combined with high energy beats is what this Swiss Nu-Italo duo is all about. From their massive solos, to their understanding of what really hits the heart, Flashworx are rising stars on the disco/new wave scene. With this we’d like to present to you the Two Guys In Japan EP :
On the originals, the nu-italo duo provide us with upbeat vibes, flowing with smooth and beautiful synths and solos, really taking us back to that golden 80s era with convertible corvettes and soaking up the sun.
On Remix duty, we have the space disco master himself, FM Attack, providing us with that vintage cosmic sound, and really proving that love can be anywhere.
Lazercat & Shawn Mac mix things up providing a deep, melodic sound with a touch of italo-prog to give it that refreshing sunny vibe.
Last but not least, Sare Havlicek & Le Pimp provide us with a retro and upbeat sound, highlighting the original elements and adding a 70s style touch to it to seal the deal.
Riva Starr (Stefano Miele) from Ghettotown (Reino Unido)
The original of “I Was Drunk”, featuring those genius ‘did someone say they wanted us to take our clothes off’ French maestros Nôze has caused such a ruckus on the floor these last four months that Made To Play have decided to pour more fire on the Sambuca shots and release some very special mixes which come from steak-for-breakfast house legend DJ Sneak, who drops two main room house refixes (vocal, instro). On the flipside of this shiny vinyl release you’ll also find the Jesse Rose remix of “Dance Me” which he brought back from holiday after going to St Lucia to get on the dancehall vibe.
